FPIs turn net sellers

Net sales of Rs 22.71 crore on 15 March 2016

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold stocks worth a net Rs 22.71 crore yesterday, 15 March 2016, as per the latest data released by the depositories. FPIs had made purchases of Rs 1266.90 crore during the preceding trading session on 14 March 2016.

The net outflow of Rs 22.71 crore from the secondary equity markets on 15 March 2016 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 3822.82 crore and gross sales of Rs 3845.53 crore. On that day, the Sensex fell 253.11 points or 1.02% to settle at 24,551.17, its lowest closing level since 2 March 2016.

There was a net outflow of Rs 4.70 crore from FPIs from the category 'primary markets & others' on 15 March 2016, which was a result of nil gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 4.70 crore.

FPIs have mopped up stocks worth a net Rs 9339.86 crore from the secondary equity markets in this month so far (till 15 March 2016). FPIs sold stocks worth a net Rs 6069.31 crore into the secondary equity markets last month. FPIs have offloaded shares worth a net Rs 6911.38 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2016 so far (till 15 March 2016). FPIs offloaded shares worth a net Rs 4361.67 crore into the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015.

There has been a net inflow of Rs 191.41 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in this month so far (till 15 March 2016). There was an inflow of Rs 547.92 crore from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' last month.

The net outflow from FPIs from the category 'primary markets & others' has totaled Rs 205.18 crore in calendar year 2016 so far (till 15 March 2016). There was net inflow of Rs 22167.82 from FPIs into the category 'primary markets & others' in calendar year 2015.
