Hero MotoCorp has commenced commercial production at its new Greenfield manufacturing facility located in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh with effect from Thursday, 19 March 2020.
As per the company's press statement, Hero MotoCorp's Chittoor facility is now the eighth manufacturing plant and sixth in India. It is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region and also expand the footprint of the two-wheeler firm's manufacturing plants across the nation.
The plant would incorporate roads built from plastic waste, dense forest cover, organic farming and a 10 MW solar power plant that will be fully operational in the final phase.
Meanwhile, the Hero MotoCorp has filed an interlocutory application before the Supreme Court of India seeking relaxation of the deadline set for sale or registration of BS-IV vehicles i.e. 31 March 2020.
Hero MotoCorp said that in view of the completely unforeseen developments that have arisen out of the prevailing force majeure situation on account of COVID-19, the company has prayed for an extension of time for a period of three months, as this has hampered all aspects of industry. The Ministry of Finance has also declared that the COVID-19 should be considered as a case of natural calamity and force majeure be invoked. The disclosure was made after trading hours yesterday, 19 March 2020.
Shares of Hero MotoCorp were currently trading 0.30% lower at Rs 1,701.15 on BSE.
Hero MotoCorp is a motorcycle and scooter manufacturer. The company is the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the world.
