Index of eight core industries rises by 0.1% in June 2013 y-o-y basis

The eight core industries have a combined weight of 37.90% in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). The combined Index of eight core industries stands at 151.2 in June, 2013, which was 0.1% higher compared to the index of June, 2012.

Coal production (weight: 4.38%) moderated by 3.0% in June 2013 over June, 2012. However, the coal production cumulative index during April to June 2013-14 was 1.1% lower compared to April to June, 2012-13.

Crude Oil production (weight: 5.22%) moderated by 0.6% in June, 2013 over June, 2012, while its cumulative index during April to June 2013-14 moderated by 1.4% over corresponding period of previous year.

The Natural Gas production (weight: 1.71%) in June 2013 declined by 16.7% over June, 2012. The cumulative index for Natural Gas production during April to June 2013-14 declined by 17.6% over corresponding period of previous year.

Petroleum refinery (0.93% of Crude Throughput) production (weight: 5.94%) grew at 2.3% in June 2013 over June, 2012, while, cumulative index during April to June 2013-14 recorded a growth of 4.6% over the index of corresponding period of previous year.

Fertilizer production (weight: 1.25%) registered a growth of 11.3% in June, 2013 over June, 2012. The cumulative index of Fertilizer production during April to June 2013-14 grew at 2.5% over the index of corresponding period of previous year.

Steel (Alloy + Non-Alloy) production (weight: 6.68%) recorded a growth rate of 3.4% in June, 2013 over June, 2012. The cumulative index of Steel production during April to June 2013-14 grew at 3.1% over the index of corresponding period of previous year.

Cement production (weight: 2.41%) increased by 2.3% in June 2013 over June, 2012, and cumulatively during April to June 2013-14 it recorded a growth of 3.3% over the index of corresponding period of previous year.

Electricity generation (weight: 10.32%) moderated by 1.2% in June, 2013 over June, 2012, however, during April to June 2013-14 it recorded a growth of 2.8% over the index of corresponding period of previous year.
