Kharif crop sowing area touched 182.40 lakh hectare

As per the latest reports of sowing of kharif crops, kharif sowing area has touched 182.40 lakh hectare as on 04 July 2014.

The rice crop has been sown/transplanted in 45.12 lakh ha, pulses in 7.50 lakh ha, coarse cereals in 27.93 lakh ha, and oilseeds in 14.49 lakh ha as on 04 July 2014.

The planting of sugarcane and cotton is also in progress. Sugarcane has been planted in 43.92 lakh ha and cotton in 35.42 lakh ha as on 04 July 2014.
