Kotak Mahindra Bank slips after Q1 NPAs rise

Kotak Mahindra Bank fell 2.01% to Rs 696 at 12:32 IST on BSE after the bank's ratio of net non-performing assets to net advances rose to 0.98% as on 30 June 2013, compared with 0.64% as on 30 March 2013 and 0.80% as on 30 June 2012.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 18.98 points, or 0.10%, to 19,967.71.

On BSE, 1.60 lakh shares were traded in the counter compared with average volume of 43,000 shares over the past two weeks.

The stock hit a high of Rs 716 and a low of Rs 678.35 so far during the day.

Kotak Mahindra Bank's profit after tax (PAT) rose 43% to Rs 403 crore on 27% increase in net interest income to Rs 917 crore in Q1 June 2013 over Q1 June 2012. The result was announced during trading hours today, 18 July 2013.

The bank's ratio of gross non-performing assets (NPA) to gross advances stood at 1.95% as on 30 June 2013, compared with 1.55% as on 31 March 2013 and 1.60% as on 30 June 2012.

Provisions and contingencies surged 394.61% to Rs 168.86 crore in Q1 June 2013 over Q1 June 2012. The provision coverage ratio on non-performing assets as on 30 June 2013 is 59%

The bank's Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) as per Basel II norms stood at 18.16% as on 30 June 2013, compared with 16.05% as on 31 March 2013 and 16.57% as on 30 June 2012.

The bank's advances rose 19% to Rs 50539 crore as on 30 June 2013 from Rs 42318 crore as on 30 June 2012.

Savings deposits grew by 45% to Rs 8057 crore as on 30 June 2013 from Rs 5540 crore as on 30 June 2012.

Deposits rose 26% to Rs 52454 crore as on 30 June 2013 from Rs 41632 crore as on 30 June 2012.

On a consolidated basis, profit after tax increased 42% to Rs 627 crore in Q1 June 2013 over Q1 June 2012.

Consolidated advances rose 20% to Rs 68418 crore as on 30 June 2013 from Rs 57049 crore as on 30 June 2012.

Consolidated net interest margins (NIM) stood at 4.8% in Q1 June 2013 compared with 4.7% in Q1 June 2012.

Total assets managed / advised by the group as on 30 June 2013 are Rs 62759 crore from Rs 50951 crore as on 30 June 2012.

The bank had 445 full-fledged branches (367 branches as on June 30, 2012) across 260 locations and 967 ATMs
