Market edges higher in early trade

Key benchmark indices edged higher in early trade. At 9:27 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex was currently up 189.47 points or 0.74% at 25,811.64. The 50-unit CNX Nifty was currently up 53.60 points or 0.69% at 7,841.70. Banking and realty stocks led gains. All the twelve sectoral indices on BSE were in the green.

The broad market depicted strength. The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was strong. On BSE, 971 shares rose and 205 shares fell. A total of 34 shares were unchanged. The BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.84%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 1.02%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.

In overseas markets, Asian stocks were mixed today, 11 September 2015 after overnight modest gains in US stocks after US data offered no clarity on whether the Federal Reserve might raise interest rates next week.

Among stocks in action, State Bank of India (up 2.02%), Axis Bank (up 1.76%), Infosys (up 1.07%) and ONGC (up 1.6%) were the major gainers from the Sensex pack.
