Market may open with tiny gains ahead of F&O expiry

Trading of Nifty 50 index futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicates that the Nifty could gain 10.55 points at the opening bell. Trading could be volatile today, 28 September 2017, as traders roll over positions in the futures & options (F&O) segment from the near month September 2017 series to October 2017 series. The near month September 2017 derivatives contracts expire today, 28 September 2017.

Overseas, Asian stocks were mixed. US stocks rose yesterday, 27 September 2017, with the Dow Jones Industrials Average ending a four-day losing streak as President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans touted a sweeping tax overhaul. Republican leaders unveiled a plan to overhaul the US tax code that looks to sharply reduce tax rates on businesses and many individuals.

Orders for durable goods rose 1.7% in August, beating forecasts for a 1% rise. The National Association of Realtors' pending home sales index fell 2.6% to 106.3, the group said. That was the lowest reading since January 2016 and put the index 2.6% lower than its level a year ago.

Oil prices ended higher yesterday, 27 September 2017, after US government data revealed an unexpected decline in crude inventories, but a rise in gasoline stockpiles for the first time in four weeks kept gains in check.

Back home, key benchmark indices slumped yesterday, 27 September 2017, as reports suggesting that Indian Army today, 27 September 2017, carried out a surgical strike along the Myanmar border and targeted Naga insurgent camps dampened sentiment. The Sensex tumbled 439.95 points or 1.39% to settle at 31,159.81, its lowest closing level since 30 June 2017.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 856.28 crore yesterday, 27 September 2017, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1858.29 crore yesterday, 27 September 2017, as per provisional data.

Among corporate news, Power Grid Corporation of India said it began commercial operations of Pole II of the Champa-Kurukshetra HVDC Terminal in Chhattisgarh from 16 September, 2017. With this, all assets under the WR-NR HVDC Interconnector for IPP projects in Chhattisgarh have been commissioned. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 27 September 2017.

Reliance Industries (RIL) announced that its telecom unit, Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) and Roy Kapur Films (RKF), a leading film and media production company founded by Siddharth Roy Kapur, tied up wherein original digital video content for the Jio platform will be curated, developed, commissioned and creatively produced by Roy Kapur Films. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 27 September 2017.

Yes Bank said that capital raising committee of the board of the bank would consider an additional proposal to raise funds by issuing debt securities on private placement basis in the nature of Basel III tier II bonds on or after 3 October 2017.
