Hindalco Industries (up 3.41%), Sesa Goa (up 2.40%), Sterlite Industries (India) (up 2.27%), NMDC (up 1.53%), Tata Steel (up 1.52%), JSW Steel (up 1.49%), Hindustan Zinc (up 1.42%), Jindal Steel & Power (up 1.19%), Steel Authority of India (up 0.52%), National Aluminium Company (up 0.50%) and Bhushan Steel (up 0.01%), edged higher.
The BSE Metal index was up 2.26% at 7,678.79. It outperformed the BSE Sensex, which was up 1.79% at 19,640.18.
The BSE Metal index had underperformed the market over the past one month till 10 July 2013, sliding 9.74% compared with the Sensex's 0.76% fall. The index had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, falling 11.29% as against Sensex's 4.78% rise.
