Metal stocks edge lower
Metal stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Metal index decreasing 360.09 points or 5.67% at 5994.08 at 13:53 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (down 8.89%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 7.64%),Tata Steel Ltd (down 7.31%),Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 6.62%),Vedanta Ltd (down 5.59%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were JSW Steel Ltd (down 5.16%), NMDC Ltd (down 3.96%), Coal India Ltd (down 3.95%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 3.5%), and National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 2.49%).
At 13:53 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 1151.32 or 3.64% at 30496.68.
The Nifty 50 index was down 314.45 points or 3.4% at 8947.4.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 329.74 points or 3.03% at 10557.17.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 110.86 points or 2.91% at 3701.05.
On BSE,626 shares were trading in green, 1656 were trading in red and 149 were unchanged.
