Sensex, Nifty hit fresh intraday low

Key indices slipped into negative terrain and hit fresh intraday low in the mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty was trading slightly above 11,000 level. At 14:16 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 21.84 points or 0.06% at 37,248.98. The Nifty 50 index was down 13.7 points or 0.12% at 11,022.

The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.09%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.53%.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On the BSE, 1393 shares rose and 982 shares fell. A total of 149 shares were unchanged.

NBFC major, IIFL Finance (up 2.29%) reported that IIFL Securities and IIFL Wealth Management have received approval Sebi for listing of their equity shares at the exchanges. The final listing will soon take place and date of the same will be reported by IIFL Finance.

Travel and tourism firm Thomas Cook announced that it has opened a new office at Sahakarnagar, Bengaluru. With this, the company's network in Bengaluru extends to 10 locations. Thomas Cook was trading 0.94% higher at Rs 151.

Havells India was up 0.64% to Rs 669.10 after the company announced 'Six Years Warranty' on MCBs and RCCBs with enhanced features. MCBs and RCCBs are designed with nickel-plated terminals to provide high resistance from corrosion.

Shares of most public sector oil marketing companies (PSU OMCs) declined. HPCL (down 1.3%), BPCL (down 0.71%) and Indian Oil Corporation (down 0.6%) declined.

In the commodities market, Brent Crude oil futures fell 2.52% to close at $60.81 per barrel on Wednesday. The commodity extended losses today and is currently down 0.30% at $60.68 per barrel.

Meanwhile, the yield on 10-year benchmark federal paper fell to 6.646% at 14:10 IST compared with 6.674% at close in the previous trading session.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 71.345, compared with its close of 71.6625 during the previous trading session.

In the commodities market, MCX Gold futures for 4 October 2019 settlement declined 0.29% at Rs 37,863.
