Eleven more people were arrested Saturday in connection with the attack on two TV journalists in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 14, police said.

"We have arrested 11 more people Saturday in connection with the attack on the two TV journalists. So far we have arrested 14 persons," Barrackpore Commissioner of Police Sanjay Singh said.

The two journalists from Bengali news channels were hospitalised with serious injuries after they were attacked on Friday while covering a clash allegedly between two rival factions of the Trinamool Congress in Barrackpore, some 25 km from Kolkata.

The attack took place when supporters of Trinamool leader Jitu Lal, who was murdered Thursday, clashed with a rival group. People carrying Trinamool flags later attacked the two journalists.

The attack has been widely condemned by political parties as well as the civil society.

Both the Congress and the Communist Party of India-Marxist blamed the ruling Trinamool for the "attack on the media".

The CPI-M Friday wrote to Governor M.K. Narayanan seeking his intervention in the matter.

The Trinamool, however, denied the involvement of its workers in the attack. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemning the attack and assured strict action against the guilty.
