A 121 feet long agarbatti (joss stick) has been lit at the site of the Simhasth Kumbh pilgrimage which is to be held here from April 22 to May 21.

The agarbatti weighs about 4,000 kg and was produced in Gujarat at a cost of about Rs.3 lakh.

It was lit by Bholagiri, a member of 'Aavaahan Akhara', on Sunday evening and is likely to continue to spread scent in the air for the entire duration of the pilgrimage.

An 'Akhara' is a club of religious renunciates. Their elaborate processions and bathing rituals form an essential part of any Kumbh pilgrimage.

The raw material used in the production of the agarbatti includes gobar (cow dung) go-mutra (cow urine), ghee (clarified butter), bamboo, guggal (resin of Commiphora wightii), curds and coconut fibre.

It was transported on a truck from Gujarat to this district of Madhya Pradesh.
