At least 20 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured Wednesday when Israeli artillery hit a school used as a shelter by displaced people in Jabaliya town of Gaza Strip, medics said.
Ashraf al-Qedra, health ministry spokesman in Gaza, said that hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip have so far received 20 bodies and dozens of injured civilians who were living in the shelter at a UN-run school in Jabaliya town, Xinhua reported.
Israel has not commented on the incident so far.
Israeli strikes carried out overnight Tuesday killed 13 more Palestinians following the artillery shelling on Jabalia town, according to an earlier report.
On July 25 also the Israeli army struck a UN-run shelter school in the northern Gaza Strip town of Biet Hanoun, killing 16 displaced people and injuring more than 100 others.
The Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip, which was launched July 8 to end Palestinian rocket firing into Israel, has so far claimed the lives of 1,253 Palestinians and 56 Israelis, including 53 soldiers.
Regional and international efforts to end the ongoing fighting between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza have gone futile.
