A bus on a long-distance route overturned on an expressway in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region late Tuesday night, killing 22 people and injuring 38 others, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
The accident occurred at 11.27 p.m. Tuesday in Bachu county, Kashgar prefecture, Xinhua news agency reported citing a statement by the prefecture's government. The 428-km-long expressway links Kashgar with Aksu.
The injured have been rushed to hospital.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
