Three firefighters were injured while combating a blaze overnight that continued to rage in a building in the city's commercial hub Burrabazar area in central Kolkata, fire brigade sources said on Tuesday.
"Three of the firemen have suffered minor injuries. The fire fight is still on," a fire brigade official said.
The fire was first noticed at 9.30 p.m. on Monday at a plastic warehouse on the ground floor of 3, Amaratala Lane.
There were no reports of any casualty, but the century-old building -- evacuated soon after the fire was noticed -- was gutted. Its roof and wooden staircase gave way with experts apprehensive that the entire structure could collapse.
State Fire Service Minister Sovan Chatterjee monitored the fire fighting operation from the spot for a major part of the night.
Sixteen fire tenders were at the spot.
