39 IPS officials transferred in UP

Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on Friday effected a major rejig of the state police force, as it transferred 39 senior IPS officials.

In a new system of policing, the state government has also posted, for the first time, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) level officials in police zones and Inspectors-General of Police (IGP) in ranges. In previous regimes, IGPs used to head zones while Deputy Inspectors General of Police were in-charge of ranges.

In the reshuffle, zones like Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Bareilly and Lucknow have been assigned to ADG-level officials while ranges like Agra, Lucknow, Bareilly, Kanpur and Faizabad will now have IGs as incharge.

Prominent faces who have transferred include A Satish Ganesh, IG Lucknow who has now been sent to the Provincial Armed Constabulary, S.B. Shirodkar who is now the new IG (Establishment), Sujeet Pandey has been made the new IG (Administration), Vinod Kumar Singh has been named the new IG Railways, Amitabh Yash has been made the IG, Special Task Force, Vishwajeet Mohapatra the ADG, Varanasi, Anand Kumar the ADG, Meerut, Brij Raj Meena the ADG, Bareilly and Abhay Kumar Prasad the new ADG, Lucknow.
