An innovation centre for 3D printing technology is set to open in China's Chongqing municipality, local authorities said on Monday.

Relying on the manufacturing prowess of cutting-edge 3D printing technologies, the centre will help develop technologies and products for industries ranging from aviation to automobile to health care, Xinhua news agency reported.

It has signed investment deals with 15 companies and institutions on robotics and smart equipment, the authorities said.

The National Engineering Research Centre of Rapid Manufacturing will operate the centre, scheduled to begin trial operation in January 2016.
