A total of 49 policemen were Saturday transferred to police lines for failing to check a betting syndicate in their area, a senior Delhi Police official said.
The policemen were sent to the Third Battalion over their failure to control a betting syndicate, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Beniwal told IANS.
All the policemen were posted at Nand Nagari police station in east Delhi.
According to the officer, the policemen were also involved in illegal activities.
"The action was taken today (Saturday) on a complaint of the public grievances cell sent one-and-half-months ago. At that time, action was not taken keeping in view the polling in Delhi," Beniwal said.
