The Uttar Pradesh government transferred 53 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officials, including 27 district magistrates, late Tuesday.
Sources said the transfers, one of the biggest administrative rejig by the two year old Akhilesh Yadav government, were done at the behest of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav "based on the feedback received by party district units".
Mulayam Singh Yadav had told party workers Jan 22 that he received complaints against 27 district magistrates. Prominent among those transferred are District Magistrate Meerut Navdeep Rinva, DM Kanpur Sandeep Verma, DM Agra Zuher Bin Sageer and Aligarh DM Rajeev Rautela.
The new district chiefs in most districts are now from the provincial civil services (PCS).
Another administrative reshuffle involving large scale transfers of IPS officials is also in the offing, an official told IANS.
