As many as 82 per cent Indians favour the government's decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination currency notes, a survey has said.
According to the survey by Inshorts in collaboration with IPSOS, 84 per cent of the respondents think the government is serious about curbing black money, while 52 per cent disagree with the decision to cap ATM withdrawls to a maximum of Rs 2,000 (since increased to Rs 2,500) daily.
Inshorts is India's highest-rated news app while IPSOS is a global market and opinion research specialists.
The 'Pulse of the Nation' survey was conducted on November 8 and 9, soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
The survey garnered almost five lakh responses with the participation of 2,69,393 app users.
"The survey clearly shows that majority of respondents hailed the demonetisation. The government's strategic clampdown on black money and tax evasion has surely gone well with the young and urban India," said Amit Adarkar, CEO of IPSOS India.
More than 80 per cent of those surveyed were below the age of 35 and belong to one of India's top 10 metros and cities -- New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Lucknow.
