At least nine persons were injured and one suspect was shot dead in a stabbing incident at a university campus in Ohio in the United States, media reports said.
Police said a suspect ran a car into a group of people at Ohio State University on Monday afternoon, jumped out with a "butcher's knife" and and began slashing and stabbing bystanders.
The incident was initially reported as an "active shooter" situation, but the suspect did not shoot anyone, NBC news reported.
The suspect's name was not released, but police said he was an 18-year-old Ohio State student, a Somali refugee who was a legal permanent resident of the United States.
"This car just swerved and ran into a whole group of people," said a wtiness, who was walking down the street and saw the car hit people.
The campus, where 60,000 students are enrolled was put on lockdown for 90 minutes after the university first reported an "active shooter" in the chaos of the moment.
The motive was unknown, but officials said the attack was clearly deliberate and may have been planned in advance.
"This was done on purpose," campus Police Chief Craig Stone said.
"A police officer was on the scene within a minute and killed the assailant. He engaged the suspect and eliminated the threat," he added.
