A total of 919 personnel were awarded police medals Thursday on the eve of India's 68th Independence Day. Delhi Police head constable Ram Kishan was posthumously awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry.
Of the 919 personnel, 15 were awarded President's Police Medal, 163 Police Medal for Gallantry, 82 President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 659 were awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
A total of 37 personnel were awarded correctional service medals -- including four President's Correctional Service Medal for Distinguished Service, 32 Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service and one President's Correctional Service Medal for Gallantry.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received 24 medals -- including four President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 20 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
CBI's joint director Rajeev Kumar Sharma was among the three other officials who are recipients of President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service while the medal for meritorious service was conferred on 20 officials.
Of the 20 Delhi Police officers conferred police medals, one received the President's Police Medal for Gallantry.
Delhi Police head constable Ram Kishan was posthumously awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry, while head constable Yashpal Rathi (posthumously) and constable Umesh Kumar were awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security) Prabhakar was conferred President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was awarded 134 police medals, including one President's Police Medal for Gallantry, 70 Police Medal for Gallantry, five Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 58 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Border Security Force received 59 awards, including one President's Police Medal for Gallantry, six Police Medal for Gallantry, six Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 46 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was conferred 29 awards, including four Police Medal for Gallantry, two Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 23 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was conferred 15 police medals, Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) 12 while Special Protection Group (SPG) got four awards.
Ministry of Home Affairs was conferred 32 police medals, including seven Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 25 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
