Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the AAP and its supporters have lowered the level of political discourse.
"The political discourse cannot be couched in vulgar language. Falsehood delivered with vulgar overtones is not a substitute of truth. Lumpenisation of public discourse can never be high point of politics," Jaitley said in a Facebook post.
"Functionaries of the Delhi government and its supporters have lowered the level of political discourse," he added.
Jaitley also said people in positions were expected to act with restraint.
"They cannot be outlandish. Vulgarity is not a right available to them," he said.
Jaitley accused the Aam Aadmi Party of spreading falsehood, and also targeted the Congress.
"They rely heavily on general falsehood without ever stating the specifics. The AAP's success in Delhi seems to have misled the Congress party that vulgarity brings votes," he said.
