AAP supporters angered with BJP, Congress for government's fall

Undeterred by a steady drizzle and the cold evening, hundreds of AAP supporters gathered to hear Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as he announced his decision to quit and voiced anger at the BJP and Congress "plan" for forcing the government's downfall.

As Kejriwal announced his resignation from the first floor of the AAP's Hanuman Road office in central Delhi, his swelling supporters gathered below expressed disappointment.

"If an election is held, we will reelect the AAP to power.. we want Arvind Kejriwal to be the chief minister of Delhi," said Arvind Rai, an AAP supporter from Hisar in Haryana.

Before Kejriwal came to the window of the party office to make his address, his supporters wearing AAP caps shouted slogans against the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - "BJP, Congress hain yaar, maron unko jootey chaar (BJP and Congress are in cahoots, hit them with shoes)."

The AAP sent out SMSs to party supporters to gather at the party office as soon as the Jan Lokpal bill was not allowed to be tabled in the house. Party supporters converged at the Hanuman Road office and many of them beat their chests to voice unhappiness over the chief minister having to quit.

Kejriwal announced he was resigning as Delhi's chief minister and sought fresh elections in the national capital.

He made the announcement after the Congress and the BJP prevented him from tabling the Jan Lokpal bill in the assembly - his major poll promise.

"We don't want him to resign, but the Congress and BJP have forced him to take the step. We are very angry," said Umesh, another supporter.

"Arvind has been trying to pass the Jan Lokpal bill, but the BJP and Congress had already planned from before that they wont let it be passed in the assembly. It was a plan by both parties," said Kumar.

He said the Congress and BJP are "partners behind the scenes".

None of the media persons were allowed to enter the party office.
