The passengers of two local suburban trains had a close shave when the trains came face to face but were stopped in time at the Sealdah station here Thursday.
An Eastern Railway spokesperson said the driver of the Up Sealdah-Lalgola Passenger, which left Platform 7, overshot the starter signal and entered the down main line but was stopped short of a Down Bongaon-Sealdah local coming from the opposite direction.
The driver and assistant driver of the Lalgola passenger have been placed under suspension. A probe has been initiated.
The Lalgola Passenger was hauled back to Platform 7. It later resumed its journey with a new driver, assistant driver and a guard.
Train services were affected for about 75 minutes following the incident, said the spokesperson.
