'Achhe din' (good days) under the BJP government have come only for the capitalists and foreign companies, CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat said here Saturday.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to bring 'achhe din' for the people of the country. But, the 'achhe din' have come only for the capitalists and multinational companies," Karat said at a public meeting of the party.

"The central government is only bringing anti-people laws favouring capitalists," he said.

Schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, implemented to benefit the poor, were being diluted and new labour laws are being introduced affecting the job security of poor people, he added.

"While new labour laws will hit the labourers in the country, the amendment in the land acquisition act would affect the farmers," the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader said.

Stating that both the BJP-led government and the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government were legislating anti-people laws, he described the BJP as a "communal party being driven by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's Hindutva agenda".

He said the RSS and its organisations were attacking the minority communities in the country while there was forceful conversion as part of their Hindu nation agenda.

Karat also attacked the Odisha government for being mired in scams.

"The Biju Janata Dal government is no different from the Congress and the BJP. It has allowed foreign companies to loot the natural resources of the state. Besides, the government is mired in scams including chit fund and mining scams," said the CPI-M leader.
