Adil, Shiani enter quarters in junior tennis

Adil Kalyanpur and Shiani Manjanna, both of Karnataka, and top seeds in boys and girls singles, respectively, cruised into the quarterfinals of the SAT Open AITA National Series Under-16 Junior Tennis Championship here on Wednesday.

Adil, who won, a double crown in Hyderabad last week, defeated Gunjan Jhadav 6-2, 6-1 in the boys singles pre-quarter-final tie while Shivani outplayed teammate Ankita Nandakumar 6-1, 6-1.

The seventh seed, Sai Panav Ponaka of Karnatatka went down to Siddarth Thakaan 1-6, 3-6 while Nikita Reddy, who upset second seed Megh Patel in the second round, defeated Atharva Sharma 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 and entered the last eight.
