Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani Saturday strongly condemned a terrorist attack on a mosque in Pakistan.

"Killing of defenceless individuals, particularly those offering prayers, is a solely un-Islamic and inhuman act that is never justifiable," Xinhua news agency quoted the Afghan leader as saying in a statement released by the Presidential Palace.

On Friday, 20 people were killed and over 50 injured in a suicide attack at a mosque of Shia Muslims in Pakistan's northwestern provincial capital of Peshawar.

"President Ghani once again insisted on a firm struggle against terrorism that is a common threat for the region and the world, Afghanistan and Pakistan in particular," said the statement.

Ghani offered condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families of, it added.

He also strongly condemned the killing of an Afghan High Peace Council member, Hajji Sherin Agha, who was shot dead by terrorists in the country's Kandahar province.

Agha was killed while he was praying in a local mosque in Kandahar city, the provincial capital of the southern Afghan province of Kandahar Thursday night, according to the statement.
