The toll in the explosion that rocked the Afghan capital rose to 12 on Monday, an official said.

"The hospitals have received 12 bodies and 67 injured people," Xinhua news agency quoted spokesman for the Public Health Ministry, Aziz Kawusi, as saying.

The suicide attack rocked the Macrorayon area here around 4.15 p.m. on Saturday. A security official said the blast took place when a convoy of foreigners was passing the area.

Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi has blamed Taliban militants for the attack.
