After violence, para-military forces deployed in Gurgaon

Following Friday's incidents of torching and damaging of nearly 65 vehicles, authorities in Haryana's Gurgaon district Saturday deployed two companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Border Security Force (BSF) in the area.

A state government spokesman said that after incidents of violence in Patudai area of Gurgaon district "through rumour-mongering and misleading information by some mischievous elements" about transportation of cattle from Chandigarh to the Maanpur Gaushal in Uttar Pradesh, two companies of CRPF and BSF have arrived and deployed there "to ensure proper law and order situation".

"These companies alongwith commandos of Haryana Police and officers of district administration did flag march in Pataudi area during both morning and evening today (Saturday)," a state government spokesman said here.

Angry mobs had set on fire or damaged 65 vehicles, including trucks, police vehicles and buses, claiming that cows were being carried in the trucks for slaughtering.

The mobs set nearly 50 vehicles on fire in the area under Dharuhera police station in Rewari district, 45 km from Gurgaon.

In another incident, a mob intercepted at least 16 trucks ferrying cows, unloaded the animals, and then set the vehicles on fire in Pataudi area in Gurgaon district.

At least 25 other trucks ferrying nearly 200 cows from Chandigarh to Uttar Pradesh were seized by the villagers. The truck drivers and helpers managed to escape.

Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi and Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal also visited Pataudi, 30 km from Gurgaon, with senior officers to take stock of situation.

Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rahul Sharma said that the CRPF and BSF companies, along with about 500 jawans of Haryana Police were stationed in the affected areas. Two more companies of CRPF and BSF will reach Gurgaon Sunday.

Sharma said that two cases have been registered against the people who torched vehicles in areas under the Pataudi and Farukhnagar police stations. The FIRs are against 150-200 unknown people but in the Pataudi police station case, 30 accused have been named.
