Air passenger traffic grows 2.3 percent in November

Domestic air passenger traffic jumped 2.33 percent in November to 5.13 million passengers ferried -- up from 5.02 million carried during the corresponding month last year, data furnished by the civil aviation ministry Thursday showed.

According to data furnished by the ministry, the passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-November, 2013 was up 4.52 percent at 55.83 million from 53.42 million passengers in the corresponding period of last year.

On a month-to-month basis, domestic passenger traffic grew by 2.53 percent at 5.13 million passengers being ferried in November from 5.01 million passengers serviced in October. The passenger traffic had grown by 9.86 percent in October from 4.56 million passengers carried in September 2013.

Budget carrier IndiGo remained the largest domestic passenger carrier with a market share of 28.6 percent followed by Air India's domestic operations (19.3), SpiceJet (19 percent), Jet Airways (18.5), GoAir (8.8), JetLite (5.6 percent) and newly started Air Costa (0.2 percent).

The data also showed that Air India's domestic operations achieved the highest overall occupancy in the month under review at 75.1 percent, followed by IndiGo at 74.6 percent and JetLite at 74.4 percent.

The data also showed that low cost carrier (LCC) GoAir had the highest cancellation rate of 1.7 percent followed by SpiceJet at 1.4 percent and Air India's domestic operations at 0.7 percent.
