AFC Ajax maintained the lead in the Dutch Eredivisie with a 2-0 win over PEC Zwolle.

Ajax dominated the first half in Zwolle on Sunday, but wasted several major chances, reports Xinhua.

Wingers Amin Younes and Viktor Fischer were not sharp in front of the goal. It took a mistake by PEC Zwolle goalkeeper Kevin Begois to score for Ajax, with Younes profiting in the 37th minute.

In the second half PEC Zwolle came back into the match and created some chances. However, substitutes Thulani Serero and Lasse Schone secured the away victory in the 86th minute, with the latter assisting the goal of Serero.

Reigning champions PSV Eindhoven were superior against AZ 3-0, also on Sunday. After an early own goal by Derrick Luckassen, Eredivisie topscorer Luuk de Jong headed in a Joshua Brenet cross for the 2-0 and tipped in an assist by Gaston Pereiro for the 3-0, his 12th and 13th goal of the season.

Elsewhere, Vitesse beat NEC 1-0 in the derby of the province of Gelderland. Valeri Qazaishvili became match winner with a beautiful curled shot in the 49th minute. Also on Sunday Heracles Almelo lost 4-2 at FC Utrecht.

Ajax now lead the table with 35 points from 14 matches, followed by Feyenoord (32), PSV (31), Heracles Almelo (26) and Vitesse (24).
