UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday broke security norms and overruled his security personnel to stop his cavalcade to allow an ambulance to pass and reach a medical facility.

Not stopping at this, the 43-year-old chief minister also asked his security detail to escort the ambulance to the hospital till Bandariyabagh, so that it gets a clear track and possibly a life could be saved.

Circle Officer (CO), Traffic Zafar Khan told IANS that the chief minister was on his way back to his official residence from the airport after returning from a hectic tour of Bareilly and Budaun when he noticed an ambulance carrying a patient, stuck in the jam at Bangla Bazaar, as his fleet was passing and the traffic had been held up.

Akhilesh Yadav immediately asked his security personnel to ensure that the ambulance is allowed to move out and go ahead to the medical facility. He did not stop at that and in fact asked his long cavalcade to follow the ambulance so that the patient reaches the hospital in time without any more security problems and traffic snarls-up later.

While the chief minister's motorcade turned to his official 5, Kalidas Marg residence, the ambulance was asked to be allowed a "free corridor" to the medical college.
