Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will distribute battery-operated rickshaws to 500 people here on August 15, an official said on Thursday.
These rickshaws, each costing Rs.1.5 lakh, would be distributed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA).
In the 2012 assembly polls, the Samajwadi Party had promised these eco-friendly rickshaws to the poor.
While the scheme was okayed within months after the party took power, it could not roll out due to alleged technical glitches and red tape.
In 2014, 23 rickshaws were distributed.
"Tenders have been issued to procure the rickshaws and the chief minister will distribute them on August 15," an official told IANS.
