Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, a Sinai-based Al Qaeda-inspired group has claimed responsibility for the series of bomb attacks targeting Egyptian police in Cairo since Friday, the group said in a statement Saturday.
Late Friday, the group also warned Egyptians against holding any pro-military rallies Saturday, the third anniversary of the 2011 uprising that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak, Xinhua reported.
Ansar Beit al-Maqdis is a supporter of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, who was removed by the military last July following mass protests against his rule and his Muslim Brotherhood group.
In the statement, the jihadi group asked Egyptians to stay away from any police buildings.
"Stay away from our unfaithful enemies' headquarters and security premises," said the statement posed on jihad forums.
A string of deadly explosions have killed six people and wounded nearly 100 others in Cairo since Friday.
