An amendment bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Friday that seeks to replace an ordinance in which tax rates on motor vehicles were hiked to a maximum of 25 per cent under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley introduced the GST (Compensation to States) Amendment Bill, 2017.
The bill seeks to amend the GST (Compensation to States) Act, 2017.
The government had issued an ordinance in September to increase the cess on motor vehicles, including large cars and sport utility vehicles from 15 per cent to 25 per cent.
The Cabinet last week cleared the bill to replace the ordinance.
