Model-turned-actor Arjun Rampal's 'lungi-vest' look in Nikhil Advani's forthcoming crime thriller "D-Day" is a far cry from his glamorous avatar.

As a supermodel, Arjun, 40, flaunted the best of designer brands on the runway, and as an actor he has been seen in suave suits, jackets and casual westerns, but he shuns al that for "D-Day" and adopts a desi look.

Arjun essays the character of Rudra Pratap Singh, an ex-officer of the Indian Armed Forces MARCOS unit. His bearded look for the character is complete with a white knitted skull cap.

Arjun is also said to have been so heavily involved in the look of his character that he decided to change his look in the middle of the shoot to match the transition that his character goes through, said a source.

Advani supported the actors' ideas and was quite impressed.

"Arjun is extremely excited about his character in the movie. This is the first undercover spy character he is playing and he wanted his character to look as authentic as possible. In fact, the lungi too was an addition made by Arjun himself," Advani said in a statement.

"I believe Arjun has far exceeded the expectations created post 'Rock On!!'," he added.

"D-Day", co-produced by DAR Motion Pictures and Emmay Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., also stars Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan, Shruti Haasan, Huma Qureshi, Akash Dahiya, Sree Swara and Chandan Roy Sanyal. It releases July 19.
