Indias racing sensation Armaan Ebrahim and his teammate Dilantha Malagamuwa of Sri Lanka concluded their 2016 racing season in style, winning the Pro Am championship in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series here on Sunday.
The talented duo also took the third position in the Pro category, thanks to their consistent performances through the year.
In the sixth round here on Sunday, Armaan and Dilantha finished third in the morning race and fourth in the afternoon one to garner enough points to clinch the title.
They began the morning on a high note with Armaan starting at pole for Race 1, his second pole position during the year, and Dimantha qualifying at fifth for Race 2.
In the first leg for the Pros, Armaan held on to the pole position comfortably till he pitted to set his team up for a grand finish. But in the second leg for amateurs, Dilantha could not hold on to the lead and dropped two places to give the duo an overall finish of third place.
In Race 2, Dilantha started the amateur leg at fifth and seemed to be doing well till the penultimate lap. But just as he was coming into the pits, he took a big hit from behind and damaged his suspension quite badly.
Despite that, Armaan piloted the car bravely in the Pro leg and used all his experience and skill to clinch a podium finish to give them overall fourth position.
The points in Race 1 and Race 2 were good enough for Armaan and Dilantha to win the Pro Am Championship and take the third place in Pro category.
"It was a year full of ups and downs. My pace was strong through the year and I had two pole positions in the 6 rounds. In most of the races I was ahead of the Pro drivers during my stints," Armaan said after the victory celebrations.
"We could not finish two races earlier which cost us a number of points. Otherwise, we would have taken the Pro title too," he added.
Armaan thanked his sponsors JK Tyres, his team Dilantha Racing and Lamborghini for their support through the year.
