Army conveys concern about infiltration to Pakistan

The Indian Army Friday conveyed its concern to Pakistan about an attempted infiltration into India in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir Jan 13, a defence spokesman said.

A flag meeting was held at the brigade commander level between the Indian and the Pakistan Army at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district at 11.30 a.m. The meeting lasted for over an hour.

"Both delegations were led by brigadier-level officers and discussed various issues related to the ceasefire agreement as well as the need to improve responsiveness of existing communication channels," the spokesman said after the meeting.

"The Indian Army's concerns about the infiltration attempt in the Krishna Ghati sector Jan 13 were conveyed in strong terms to the Pakistan delegation.

"The talks were held in a cordial environment and both sides agreed to give due consideration to the issues raised by the other side," he said.

The spokesman said the meeting was "another step forward" in the confidence-building measures agreed to by both sides during the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks held at Wagah Dec 24. The DGMOs met after 14 years.

It was agreed at the DGMOs meeting that field commanders of the two countries would hold flag meetings to ensure peace and tranquillity on the LoC and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

India and Pakistan signed a bilateral ceasefire agreement in 2003 which brought peace into the lives of thousands of people living on both sides of the border in Jammu and Kashmir.
