After travelling over 5,000 km and covering 27 places across seven states in two months, the central command of the Indian Army Monday bade farewell to the "Surya Kiran" torch, which was immersed in the Ganga at Varanasi.
The journey of the torch across seven states was conducted to commemorate 50 years of the army's central command, which covers these seven states.
The torch, which began its journey from Bareilly March 2, was immersed in the Ganga by Lt Gen Anil Chait.
Several functions were held to mark the golden jubilee of the central command. Before the torch was sent to Varanasi for immersion, a light and sound show was held at Dilkusha here. Three Param Vir Chakra holders - honorary captain Bana Singh, Subedar Yogendra Yadav and Havaldar Sanjay Kumar - received the torch at the function.
