Assam on Thursday banned the sale of Annapurna chilli sauce and Niyor packaged drinking water with immediate effect for an initial period of 30 days after they were found to contain chemical beyond the permissible limit.
"Upon receipt of reports from food analysts to the government of Assam and the director of the Referral Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad, the Assam government has banned Annapurna chilli sauce and Niyor packaged drinking water for an initial period of 30 days with immediate effect," an official statement said.
Manufactured by Satez Agro Products in Assam, Annapurna chilli sauce was found to have benzoic acid above the maximum permissible limit, it said.
Niyor packaged drinking water, manufactured by Blue Bell Enterprise of Assam, was found to contain fluoride higher than the maximum permissible limit.
