Under apparent pressure from the central government for non-submission of utilisation certificates, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Thursday asked state departments to submit the certificates on time to obtain funds from the ministries.

"Timely submission of utilisation certificates is a must for getting the next installment of funds. The departments must submit the certificates without fail," Gogoi said while reviewing the progress and utilisation of plan funds with ministers and officials of various departments.

The chief minister held a meeting at the Assam Secretariat Thursday and directed the departments to expedite the process for release of funds after obtaining approval from the planning and development department and sanctioning of funds by the finance department.

There should not be any delay in moving the files, he said.

Gogoi also directed the departments to start some infrastructure projects immediately. These include the storm water drainage project of Guwahati and the Guwahati water supply project.

"No excuses will be tolerated for dilly-dallying things," he said.

Gogoi said he would strictly monitor the utilisation of funds by the departments and would evaluate their performance.
