Atletico Mineiro routed Fluminense 4-1 to rise to the third spot in Brazil's Serie A football standings.

Defender Jemerson scored twice in the first half before Jesus Datolo and Luan also found the target after the interval on Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Former Brazil international striker Fred pulled a goal back for the Rio de Janeiro side in the 89th minute.

The result at Brasilia's Mane Garrincha stadium means Atletico now have four points from two matches while Fluminense remain on three points.

In another match, Everton struck deep into injury time to earn Flamengo a 2-2 draw with Sport. Diego Souza and Elber had given the visitors a two-goal buffer before Hector Canteros made it 2-1 in the 74th minute.

In other matches on Sunday, Vasco da Gama held Figueirense 0-0, Santos beat Cruzeiro 1-0, Internacional overcame Avai 1-0, Joinville and Palmeiras drew 0-0 and Ponte Preta defeated Sao Paulo 1-0.
