Mexico City, Jan 1 (IANS/EFE) A baby was born in a patrol car in Mexico when officers were rushing the mother to a hospital, the Federal Police said.
The incident took place in Tlaxcala state in central Mexico.
Officers spotted an automobile that had broken down on the Mexico City-Zacatepec national highway and stopped to help the motorist. They saw a man and a woman inside.
The woman, identified as Maria Blanca Carrillo Sanchez, was in labour and the driver asked the officers for help.
The officers moved the woman to the patrol car and headed for the nearest hospital. During the trip, the woman gave birth while the officers provided first aid until they reached a hospital in Apizaco.
The mother and the newborn are being treated by doctors, police said.
