Bahrain pledges to protect all expats

Bahrain's Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa has made a pledge to protect all expatriates living in that country.

Prince Khalifa made the pledge during a meeting Thursday with India's Ambassador to Bahrain, Mohan Kumar, the Gulf Daily News reported Thursday.

The prime minister's assurance same after an Indian worker, Bachitar Singh, was badly injured when miscreants hurled Molotov cocktails at him Wednesday at a village called Nuwaidrat near the island of Sitra.

Singh, 30, was removing an illegal road blockade with a digger when he was subjected to the unprovoked attack around 10 a.m. the fateful day.

It resulted in him losing control of the digger, which then crashed into a shop damaging its shutter.

As he tried to flee from the scene and fell on the ground the miscreants hurled the Molotov cocktails at him.

"The Asian worker was removing the barriers put by terrorists to frighten citizens and residents and prevent them from going to work," a police officer was quoted as saying.

Police later released a photograph that showed Singh sitting on the ground in a pool of blood with flesh peeling off his hands and legs.

He was later treated at the Salmaniya Medical Complex in Bahrain's capital Manama.

Radical opposition groups in that Gulf nation have sent letters ordering that businesses be kept shut and have also called illegal rallies as part of a rebel movement, according to the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society has condemned the attack on Singh.
