The army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have now better means to transmit information about terrorist alerts, parliament was told Tuesday.
"The government of India in coordination with the state government of Jammu and Kashmir have initiated several measures to enhance the communication channel between the army and other security forces of the central and state government for transmitting the terrorist alerts," Minister of State for Home Affairs R.P.N. Singh informed Lok Sabha in a written reply.
This step has been taken to prevent reoccurance of Samba-type terrorist attacks.
On Sep 26, 2013, militants dressed up as armymen first attacked Hiranagar police station and then kidnapped a truck to reach Samba, 18 km away, where they entered the army cantonment and opened fire. All three militants were later killed after a day-long operation but 12 security personnel including a lt. colonel were killed.
Singh said the measures being taken include strengthening of security apparatus and further fine tuning them, preparation of standard operating procedures, strengthening and institutionalising the communication system, and dissemination and exchange of information at district and sub-divisional level.
