The Bihar human rights panel has recommended Superintendent of Police Amitabh Kumar Das's transfer for writing a letter on the commission's letterhead over Minister Giriraj Singh's alleged links with the outlawed Ranvir Sena.

The Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) made the recommendation against the police official attached to it for writing to the special branch of the state police, officials said Friday.

Das, posted as superintendent of police with the commission, Monday sent a report to Inspector General (Special Branch) Jitendra Gangwar, alleging Giriraj Singh's links with the outfit.

Das also requested Gangwar to inform the Intelligence Bureau about his report.

"Taking serious note of violation, the BHRC has recommended transfer of its superintendent of police, Amitabh Kumar Das, to the state government in this connection," an official said.

Last Tuesday, the commission issued a show cause notice to Das asking him why he wrote directly to the special branch using his official letterhead bearing the commission's logo.

Das has defended his move and told media persons here that he was duty bound to keep the special branch informed about any such information.

In 2003, Das had demanded that the Ranvir Sena be declared a terrorist group.
