The Bihar cabinet Friday formally approved a proposal to train three lakh school teachers with financial help from the World Bank, officials said.

Principal Secretary, Cabinet, Sishir Sinha said that the cabinet has approved the education department's proposal to train the school teachers to increase their effectiveness and quality of education given to children at the elementary level.

"The proposed programme will run from 2015-16 to 2019-20, for which the Bihar government, the central government and the World Bank have signed an agreement," he said.

Sinha said a total of $357 million - $250 million provided by the World Bank and the rest by the state government - will be spent on the programme.
