A Biju Janata Dal (BJP) MP Friday hailed the judgment of the Supreme Court which struck down the law that protects lawmakers convicted in criminal cases from disqualification.
Baijayant 'Jay' Panda, who represents the state's Kendrapara constituency in the Lok Sabha, said he believes that more needs to be done by the political class to restore the faith of the general public in the system.
"The political class should now demonstrate its commitment to decriminalisation by creating fast track courts to deal with criminal cases against all elected representatives," Panda said here.
