The BJP on Saturday alleged that one of its workers was killed and two others were missing after Trinamool Congress-backed assailants hurled bombs and fired at its rally in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district.
Police, however, did not confirm the death or injuries.
"A Trinamool Congress mob bombed and started firing over BJP's peaceful democratic protest rally at around 5 p.m. at Chopra. One BJP 'karyakarta' (worker) Bijoy Singh has been killed, two karyakartas are missing," a Bharatiya Janata Party statement said.
It claimed that several other workers were badly wounded and admitted in North Bengal Medical College.
Condemning the "shameful act of violence", the BJP has called a 12-hour shutdown in the district.
